[The Queen's Clothes] A Weighted Summer

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Plenty by Tracy Reese print top, MSGM full circle skirt, Dolce & Gabbana heels, and Alexis Bittar ring.

The summer days are short in NYC. I feel as though, there's so much to do and so little time to do it. This year is probably the first time, in my life, that I feel the brevity of it all. I use that as my motivation to push projects forward, despite their lack of immediate results (more on that, in coming posts).

With that said, I've also been blending hidden gems and past favorites for my current and future looks. My current inspiration: Dolce & Gabbana's gilded collections. The team has the uncanny ability for taking the provincial and turning it into something alluring, even mythical. In their ad campaigns, the women are robust, corseted and trimmed with lace. Their dresses are heavy with weighted fabrics and prints that harken to Sicilian culture. Most of all, there's something sensual to the looks, the modern ingenue.

The past, my Plenty by Tracy Reese print top that I purchased from shopbop.com many years ago. I love the deep square neckline and full shoulders. For me, there's something timeless about the peasant look to the top, in combination with the ethnic print. The hidden, my Dolce & Gabbana heels. I picked them up during a trip to Marbella, Spain, last year. One of the few shoes in my arsenal that doesn't come with a platform; they are a favorite. Perhaps that lack of platform is what I love most about them, their fragility.
Instead of purchasing more and more, I will focus on blending what I have, from the items that still have their original tags, to pieces hidden away in dust bags. I look forward to sharing those looks with you all, and more, in the coming weeks.

I'd like to see this top with jeans actually. So weird seeing you in shoes without a platform.
